Welcome

Welcome to Queer Corvid, a site where I blog about parenting, Queer identity, religion, anti-racist activism, and probably also poetry, crafting, and my personal desire to throw bottles at the kyriarchy. You know how a magpie nest is basically just a giant wad of sticks until you look closer and there’s a coherent dwelling in the middle? This is like that.

I can’t imagine how you got here if you don’t know me personally, but just in case you did, my name is Aspen. I’m in my middle thirties and have spent my life in the same Montana town where I was born. I have a graduate degree in English literature and work as a volunteer antiracist educator with the Montana Racial Equity Project*. I’m married and have a grade-school-aged child. I’m also Fat, Queer, and Crazy — all identities which influence my activism and my day-to-day life.

I write a lot of poetry. Most of it is just kind of okay. I craft a lot, especially fiber arts and costuming, with varying levels of accomplishment. I parent, and seem to be not totally fucking it up yet. I shout a lot on the internet, and that’s actually going real well for me so far.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll find it useful, interesting, or at least as entertaining as watching a bird yell at its own reflection.

* I may blog about antiracist work, racism, etc. from time to time, and it should be assumed when I do that my opinions are not officially affiliated with MTREP and I am not speaking here in any capacity as a MTREP representative.
